Privacy Policy
Effective October 21, 2026
This policy explains how Open Arms Church of Jesus Christ (“Open Arms”, “we”) handles personal information on this website, the member portal, and the Open Arms mobile app for iOS and Android.
Information we collect
- Account details — your name, email address and password when you create a member login.
- Membership information — contact details, address, date of birth, household and family members, employment details and other answers you give on the membership application.
- Church participation — ministries you serve in, event RSVPs, planned visits, survey answers, and leadership feedback.
- Pastoral requests — prayer, baptism, deliverance and counselling requests you choose to send.
- Giving records — gifts recorded by the church office and year-end giving receipts.
- Business directory — listing details and a logo, if you add a business.
- Support — bug reports and any screenshots you attach.
- Device information (mobile app) — a push notification token and your notification preferences. Photos are only read when you pick one to upload. Event reminders and calendar entries you add stay on your device.
How we use it
We use this information to run the church: reviewing membership, connecting you with ministries, caring for prayer and pastoral needs, keeping giving records and issuing receipts, sending church updates and notifications you have allowed, and improving the app and website. We do not sell personal information or use it for advertising.
All-member surveys are anonymous: we record that you completed one, but your answers are not linked to your name. Ministry surveys may include your name so the ministry leader can follow up, and the survey tells you this before you answer.
Who can see it
Your information is visible to you and to church staff and leaders who need it for their role — for example, the prayer team sees prayer requests and the office sees giving records. Access is controlled by role-based permissions.
We use these service providers to operate our systems:
- Supabase — secure database, file storage and sign-in
- Vercel — website and member portal hosting
- Resend — sending church emails
- Expo, Apple and Google — delivering push notifications to the mobile app
These providers process information only on our behalf. Some may store data outside Canada.
How long we keep it
We keep membership and participation records while you are part of the church and as long as needed afterwards for church administration. Giving records and receipts are kept as long as required by Canadian tax law. Push tokens are removed when you sign out or delete your account.
Deleting your account
You can delete your login at any time in the mobile app under Menu → Delete account, or by following the steps on our account deletion page. This removes your login, notifications and push devices. Records the church is required to keep, such as giving and receipts, stay with the church office. To ask for other church records to be removed, contact us below.
Your choices and rights
You can view and update your profile in the member portal, change which notifications you receive, and ask us to access, correct or remove your personal information, as provided by Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA).
Children
Accounts are for adults. Parents may add children to their household record so the church can care for their family.
Security
Information is sent over encrypted connections and stored with access controls. No system is perfectly secure, so please keep your password private.
